RECORDING STUDIO >> |
| |
Station Hill Studios is located on the Hudson River waterfront in Germantown, New York. The 13,000 square foot building previously functioned as a light storage warehouse and railway depot. Until 1999, the building was home to The Clubhouse Recording Studio. The studio facilties are currently primarily audio oriented and consist of a spacious control room with adjointing isolation booth, lounge, and a large 1,500 square foot live recording room with 25 foot ceilings.

Shared by our co-operative of engineers and producers, the main control room of Station Hill Studios sits on the first floor of the building. With 600 sq ft of space equipped with a 32 channel SoundCraft 1600 series console (once the property of Laurie Anderson) it functions as the main analogue and digital hub for the studios sound as well as a functional work space for collaboration between several band members, producers, and/or engineers. The room is equipped with a video link and audio talkback system to the live room upstairs, and is faced by the primary isolation booth. Multiple Bantam patch bays and tie lines illustrate how the control room is designed for ease of use by multiple engineers and traveling producers who like to bring their personal dynamics and effects racks in for one session at a time. |
|
The main isolation/dead room of Station Hill Studios can be used directly with the control room for more intimate sessions, or in conjunction with the live room for larger scale recordings when there are multiple performers in need of separation. When not in use during a session, the iso booth doubles as a screening room with an 8X8 projection screen and a 1200 lumen projector for watching dvd’s, cable, or the action in the live room. |
|
The second floor at Station Hill houses our 1500 square foot tracking room. In this spacious, sonic cavern, musicians will find themselves surrounded by more vintage organs, and drum equipment than most single sessions could ever use….or could they? With thirty foot ceilings and enough gobo’s to subdivide even the largest ensemble, this room produces a truly rich and ambient sound for any artists music, (especially if you happen to be looking for that “big drum sound”). The live room contains a secondary 24 channel Soundcraft console for use with our economical ‘rehearse & record’ package and, like the iso booth on steroids, the live room can also double as a screening room in the event that you are inclined to play Tony Hawk’s Underground on a 30 ft wall with JBL Pro speakers. |

| PRINTING STUDIO >> |
The newest addition to the Station Hill complex, the printing studios, combine an 800 square foot screenprinting/craft shop with a photography darkroom. Our aim is to bring high quality artful merchandise to our clientele while simultaneously running it in a co-op fashion, allowing people to learn to use the shop and work there with a do it yourself ethic. The darkroom facility includes everything a photographer would need to develop film and print photographs.

The third floor of the Station Hill complex is home to Circulation Printing, a full service screen-printing shop designed to help independent artists with their merchandising efforts. Equipped with a six-color t-shirt press, Circulation is the place to go for any type of textile, poster, or button. Work with Paul, Chris or one of the other numerous designers of Circulation whose diverse creative concepts are available for review here in our designer’s gallery. Much like the talent pool of audio engineers in the recording studio, making your merch at Circulation brings the unique opportunity of working with a great variety of talented graphic design artists whose individual tastes cover a broad spectrum of creative directions. Or, if you’re into DIY, you can schedule to visit the shop and design digitally on an Apple G4 or get your hands dirty with more intimate crafts like stencils stamps and acetate. |

Paul and Chris, (bless their hearts!), have just completed the latest and greatest production space at Station Hill, henceforth and forever to be known as “The Dark” Darkroom. Besides handling emulsions for screen printing, this studio space is available for use as a B&W photo darkroom for your photographer, our photographers, or anyone who just likes to chill in dark red light with soy based chemicals. For members of the Hudson Valley community we’ve got day rates, month rates, and “special” rates if you happen to be one of the aforementioned weirdo’s who just wants to sit in the corner and mutter, “precious”. |
